Hampton Roads Attorney Chosen State Coordinator
Hampton attorney Stephen M. Smith, a nationally recognized specialist in traumatic brain injury and complex medical litigation, has been selected as the statewide coordinator for the Trial Lawyers for Public Justice.
TLPJ is a national public-interest law firm that marshals the skills and resources of trial lawyers to create a more just society. The TLPJ’s goal is to protect people and the environment; hold accountable those who abuse power; and to challenge governmental, corporate and individual wrongdoing.
As statewide coordinator, Smith will be responsible for helping identify cases that would merit the TLPJ’s involvement; cultivating new members and helping educate the public and the legal community about TLPJ’s work.
Smith, a principal in the law firm Joseph Smith, Ltd., is licensed to practice in Virginia, New York and the District of Columbia. He recently won a record-setting verdict in a mild traumatic brain injury case against Norfolk Southern Railroad Co. that brought international attention to the plight of traumatic brain injury victims.
