Adele Janow, 60, of White Plains, N.Y., sued Great Coastal Express of Richmond for injuries she sustained in a crash on Dec. 21, 1997, that began when the tractor-trailer truck leaked diesel fuel on the roadway. Ms. Janow was injured when her car drove through the spill and spun out of control, said her attorney Stephen M. Smith of the Brain Injury Law Center.
A jury last year awarded Ms. Janow $5.2 million, the largest personal injury verdict in Virginia in 2001. Continue reading
The Hampton Roads Transportation District has entered into a settlement in the amount of $3,000,000.00 with Fatima Fortmuller for injuries she sustained in a crash in the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel on 2/21/02. Ms. Fortmuller was stopped in traffic when she was rear ended by a city bus. She sustained low back injuries and a mild traumatic brain injury. Continue reading
The woman, Ann C. Redford, 52, was a passenger in a car driven by her husband on Aug. 25, 1998, when it was struck from behind by a truck driven by Clarance Vincent, said Redford’s attorney, Stephen M. Smith of the Brain Injury Law Center. The truck was owned by Rack Room Shoes, Inc., of North Carolina.
Mrs. Redford suffered injuries that did not become apparent until about five months after the accident, which occurred on Virginia Route 199 in James City County, Smith said. Continue reading
Lisa Hendrick, guardian for Larry J. Hendrick, 42, filed the lawsuit in Circuit Court against the city, Police Chief Dennis Mook, and officers C.M. Hall and M.A. Johnson. Hendrick suffered a moderate brain injury as a result of the injuries he suffered on May 27, 2000.
Hendrick’s attorney, Stephen M. Smith of Hampton, said that Hendrick was at a Memorial Day party, drinking beer with friends and got into an argument with his girlfriend. Smith said that Hendrick was asked to leave and was in the process of leaving the party when he fell and passed out. Paramedics were notified, but Hendrick had come to by the time the paramedics arrived and required no assistance other than a check of his vital signs. Continue reading
