Virginia Attorney Re-elected to Leadership Position in Trial Lawyers for Public Justice

Stephen M. Smith, a nationally recognized expert in traumatic brain injury litigation, was re-elected to the national board of the Trial Lawyers for Public Justice at its 20th annual meeting.

Smith, founder of the Brain Injury Law Center, and a partner in the Hampton firm of Joseph Smith Ltd., was re-elected at the group’s annual July meeting, which coincided with the annual meeting in Atlanta of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

“This is a great honor for me as the outreach work we do with brain injury litigation is crucial to bringing attention to the victims of these injuries,” said Smith. “It is gratifying to be able to assist traumatic brain injury survivors in winning the compensation they deserve.”

TLPJ is a national public-interest law firm that marshals the skills and resources of trial lawyers to create a more just society. The TLPJ’s goal is to protect people and the environment; hold accountable those who abuse power; and to challenge governmental, corporate and individual wrongdoing.

Smith also holds leadership roles in ATLA’s Traumatic Brain Injury Litigation Group, and serves on the board of the Brain Injury Association of Virginia. He has won record-setting verdicts for his clients, including one against Norfolk Southern Railroad Co. that brought international attention to the plight of traumatic brain injury victims.
