William C. Giermak, CEO of St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children, recently took attorney Stephen M. Smith, Esq., founder of the Brain Injury Law Center, and artist MarieAnn Messina of Artistry by MarieAnn on a tour of the facility. The Brain Injury Law Center is proudly sponsoring the creation of a 10-foot mermaid made by MarieAnn Messina that will be on display from October 16-31, 2010, at the Charity House at the Tidewater Builders Association’s Fall 2010 Homearama in Norfolk’s East Beach community. Following Homearama, the mermaid will be relocated to St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children to be enjoyed by the children and their families. The mermaid will be unveiled at the dedication ceremony on August 17th at 10:30 a.m. at the Homearama Charity House. At that time St. Mary’s children will assist MarieAnn in the final stage of the creation by applying their handprints.
Proceeds from the sale of the 2010 Charity House will benefit St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children. St. Mary’s provides a safe and loving environment for Virginia children with severe disabilities. The Home cares for medically fragile children and young adults from birth to age 21. St. Mary’s is a nonprofit, nonsectarian, 92-bed pediatric long-term-care residential facility, the only one of its kind in Virginia.
The Brain Injury Law Center has also commissioned MarieAnn to create a mural in the home’s dental office following Homearama.
