Hampton attorney Stephen M. Smith, a nationally recognized specialist in traumatic brain injury and complex medical litigation, has again been selected by his peers as one of the best lawyers in America.

This is the fifth consecutive edition in which fellow lawyers have selected Smith for inclusion in the publication, "The Best Lawyers in America," which is widely regarded as the definitive guide to legal excellence in the United States. It is limited to the top 1 percent of legal experts in the country.

The 2003-2004 edition is based on a peer-review survey in which more than 15,000 attorneys across the United States voted on the legal abilities of other lawyers in their specialties, and inclusion is considered among the highest honors in the legal profession.

Smith is licensed to practice in Virginia, New York and the District of Columbia. He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, a board member of the Brain Injury Association of Virginia and a member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association.

He also is a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association Traumatic Brain Injury Litigation Group Executive Board, the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and is listed in Who's Who in American Law.
